Agnes is a young Benedictine nun at Chester Priory, chosen as Prioress Alice's second in command despite her age. Agnes is quiet and appears sullen with wide, intense brown eyes, but is not miserable - rather, she is intensely curious and wants to take everything in, to understand all that she encounters. This autodidactic spirit is why Alice chose Agnes as her assistant.
