Raoul de Clermont is the Count of Clermont and Constable of France. He is the leading soldier in the kingdom and a member of King Philippe's royal household. Raoul is described as fearsome in appearace, with long black hair either side of a scarred face and a reserved, brooding manner that only adds to his aura. He is one of the old guard at the French court, and like his compatriots Comte Mathieu de la Marche and Comte Jean Lemaître de Chartres, Comte Raoul is not enamoured with the new generation of nobles beginning to surround the King, such as Guillaume de Troyes and Geoffroi d'Hainault.
Raoul's daughter, Alix de Clermont, is married to Guillaume de Dampierre, son of the Count of Flanders Guy Dampierre.
